Tangyuan Input Method Support & FAQ
How do I turn on the keyboard?
Open iPhone Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard… and choose “湯圓輸入法” (Tangyuan). While typing, touch and hold the globe icon to switch to it.
Do I have to turn on Allow Full Access?
No. You can type Zhuyin and pick candidates without it, even offline. Full Access is needed for voice dictation, syncing settings and your dictionary with the app, and the Paste button. Path: Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → 湯圓輸入法 → Allow Full Access. We do not collect what you type; see the Privacy Policy.
How do I dictate?
Tap the microphone at the top left of the keyboard, speak, then tap it again to insert the text. The first time, the keyboard jumps to the Tangyuan app for a moment (a keyboard cannot use the microphone), and for the next few minutes you can speak right on the keyboard. Dictation happens on the phone and audio is not uploaded. Allow Microphone and Speech Recognition, and download the Traditional Chinese on-device speech data.
Why does it jump back to my previous app after dictation?
Dictation briefly switches to Tangyuan. When you finish, it takes you back to the app you were typing in. During this the keyboard only identifies which app to return to; nothing is recorded or sent. If it does not return automatically, tap the back arrow at the top left of the screen, or use the app switcher; your text is still inserted.
What is the “new version available” prompt?
When the app opens it checks whether a newer version exists (sending only the build number). Tap Update to go to the App Store, or Later to skip. Rarely, a very old version must be updated before it can be used.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Typing, candidates and dictation run on the phone. The update prompt and iCloud dictionary sync need a connection and are silently skipped offline.
Is my data safe?
What you type and say stays on your phone; this version sends none of it to our servers. See the Privacy Policy.
I need more help or want to report a problem
In the app, go to More → About → Report a problem to describe what happened and send it to us (with technical details such as version and iPhone model; never what you typed). Or email [email protected] with your iPhone model, iOS version, the app where it happened and what you saw. We will reply as soon as we can.
For privacy details see the Privacy Policy.
